Capitol Building & White House On Lockdown After Shooting In Visitor’s Center

A gunman fired shots at the U.S. Capitol on March 28, wounding an innocent and sending Washington D.C. into a panic. The Capitol Building and White House have been placed on lockdown following the scary ordeal.


UPDATE 4:00 p.m. ET: The male suspect has been arrested and the lockdown on the Capitol has been lifted.

The shooter opened fire at the Visitor’s Center, but was quickly taken down by police. The suspect was shot by officials and taken to the hospital. It was originally reported that a police officer was wounded, but police confirmed that it was actually a woman standing nearby who was injured at the scene.

An alert was sent out warning anyone near the Visitor’s Center to “seek cover,” an nobody is being allowed to enter or exit the building as the situation is dealt with.

A separate incident at the White House, involving someone attempting to jump over the fence onto the property, put that building on lockdown as well, with all staff being told to remain where they are.

This incident is unrelated to the incident at the Capitol, and the intruder was apprehended, with the lockdown being lifted within just a few moments.

Emergency vehicles are flooding the streets around the Capitol, but overall, eyewitnesses are reporting that the scene has been relatively calm. The D.C. police have confirmed that this is an isolated incident and that there is no active threat to the public at this time.
