Shemar Moore Shockingly Exits ‘Criminal Minds’ After 11 Seasons — Read His Farewell

OMG! March 23 was a total shocker for all fans of CBS’ ‘Criminal Minds’ as series original Shemar Moore and his character of Derek Morgan departed the show after 11 seasons! Read on to see the reason the handsome actor is walking away from such a sweet gig.

We totally did not see this one coming! Shemar Moore, 45, has left Criminal Minds after 11 amazing seasons.
His character of Special Agent Derek Morgan decided to quit the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit and spend more time with his wife and son after his wife Savannah was nearly killed in his pursuit of a case.

The actor is now able to discuss his shocking departure since the show aired his final scenes March 23, so read on for his emotional goodbye to the series.

“When we started, there were 102 cop shows … and I questioned why they needed 103 but what we found out was that Criminal Minds was a different type of show,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.

“We were the little train that could. There were so many doubters and 11 years and 251 episodes later, I’m very proud. It’s nice to exhale now. I feel really at peace with the fact that I left it all out on the field.”

Shemar got his big break on daytime TV and noted that, “Young and the Restless gave me confidence and told me that I had a right to be here [in Hollywood],” he added. “I got popular there but I wanted credibility and to prove that I could act.

What criminal Minds did was help people see that I could handle drama — and keep my shirt on — and tell stories. Criminal Minds was college and now I’m ready for grad school and the next step.”

Walking away from such a steady and high paying gig – Shemar reportedly made $100,000 per episode as of 2011 – is a big risk for any actor. But if Shemar feels the need to be more challenged, then kudos for him and we can’t wait to see what his future holds!
