Housewife Stabs Undergraduate Peacemaker To Death

An angry housewife has allegedly stabbed a 28-yearold undergraduate to death at Ajah area of Lagos State. The woman, Ndifreke Femi (30), during a domestic quarrel with her husband, had armed herself with a kitchen knife.

But she instead stabbed Ayomide Ayenuwa, who was trying to make peace between the couple, in the neck. The peacemaker died while being rushed to the hospital. The mother of two was later picked up by policemen attached to Ajah Police Station, Lagos. She told the police that she killed the peacemaker in self-defence.

She insisted that the deceased first punched her on the nose. Her husband had disappeared since the incident. One of the neighbours, James Peter, said the incident happened around 5p.m. on the fateful day in April.

He said: “Ayenuwa went to Mr. and Mrs. Femi’s apartment to pay his electricity bills.

However, when he got to their apartment, he saw they were quarrelling. The wife accused her husband of stealing the N20,000 she hid under their mattress.

The husband denied it. It was at this point that Ayenuwa made efforts to settle the quarrelling couple, but the couple kept fighting. Ayenuwa begged the wife to take the matter easy. She, however, turned on Ayenuwa, calling him names.

“Despite all entreaties, she refused to listen. She started abusing Ayenuwa. She told him to mind his business. As Ayenuwa was walking away, the woman ran into the kitchen and returned with a kitchen knife. She stabbed him in the neck.

Ayenuwa’s family members, assisted by neighbours, rushed him to Peninsula Hospital, Ajah, but he was referred to the General Hospital, Akodo. He died on his way to the hospital.” The case was reported at Ajah Police Station and Femi was picked up. The husband, however, ran away before policemen arrived.

The case had since been transferred to the Homicide Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Panti, Yaba, for further investigation. Femi said that she acted in self-defence. She claimed that Ayenuwa was the first person to attack her. According to her, the deceased allegedly punched her in her head, which made her nose to bleed. She said she attempted to use the knife to defend herself.
