‘Straight Outta Compton’ Cast Throws Major Shade At Oscars After Movie Awards Win

The shade is real! When ‘Straight Outta Compton’ won for Best True Story at the MTV Movie Awards on April 10, the cast made sure to reference their controversial lack of nomination at the 2016 Oscars.
Check out the epic acceptance speech that totally got the crowd goin’ here!

Straight Outta Compton got some validation for its lack of an Oscars Best Picture nomination at the MTV Movie Awards on April 10! The cast took home the award for Best True Story, and totally dissed the Academy by referencing the #OscarsSoWhite controversy in their acceptance speech.

“I’d just like to thank the Academy. I mean MTV! I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry – my bad!” Jason Mitchell, who played Eazy-E in the 2015 biopic, began his speech.”
The crowd started “oooohing” and laughing in the background over the shade, and the rest of the cast was totally cracking up.

“We’re real happy to be spending this 25th year with you all,” Jason added.” This is a big deal.

You’ve been pioneers for N.W.A. You all been ridin’ since the beginning. We really appreciate it.”
In case you forgot, a major controversy surrounding this year’s Oscars was the overwhelming majority of nominations for white actors and actresses, and the lack of recognition for people of color.
Several big stars, including Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith, even boycotted the show over this major issue.

Straight Outta Compton was also nominated for Movie of the Year at the Movie Awards, but lost out to Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Other big winners at the show included Chris Pratt, who took home Best Action Performance, Ryan Reynolds, who won for Best Comedic Performance and Best Fight, and Amy Poehler, for Best Virtual Performance. Oh, and Melissa McCarthy was deservingly awarded with the Comedic Genius honor — so cool!

What do you think of Jason’s acceptance speech for Straight Outta Compton? Was it amazing…or way harsh?
