More than SEVEN TONS of marijuana worth $7million disguised as furniture is found in a cargo truck at the San Diego border

A man tried to smuggle more than seven tons of pot at the San Diego border before his shipment was seized by customs officers.

The man, a 47-year-old Mexican citizen, drove a commercial cargo truck into the Otay Mesa port of entry last week, US Customs And Border Protection said.
He presented himself for inspection Thursday morning and an officer pulled him aside for a more in-depth examination.

His truck was supposed to be transporting furniture.

Inspectors ran the truck through an imaging system, revealing anomalies with the shipment.

They opened the trailer and found stacks of boxes lined up throughout.

Officers opened the boxes, which contained large wrapped packages.
These packages tested positive for marijuana on the field.

Authorities seized 587 packages in total, weighing 14,219 pounds with a street value of $7.1 million.
The driver has now been turned over to Homeland Security for further investigation and was taken into custody.

Officers have also seized the truck, including its trailer.
