Future, 32, faced plenty of drama after splitting with Ciara, 30, especially considering she found love soon after with Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, 27. The rapper previously voiced his frustrations when he felt Ciara was parading their son Future Jr. around with another man. So now that time has passed, is he truly pleased to know his ex lady is soon-to-be married?
“Her being successful, her being happy, helps me,” Future tells Rolling Stone for their July 14-28 issue, which hits stands on July 1. “I’m attached to you. If you’re happy, I’m happy. You’re connected for life. I don’t want you to go through this s–t and for it to come back on my son, my kid. I would never wish that. I want you to be in the best situation.” This statement was addressing the rumor that he wanted Ciara to fail. Future shared that he was actually scared “as s***” while going through these personal struggles as his album Honest scored underwhelming numbers.
Ciara and Future announced their engagement in 2013 and days later she revealed she was pregnant. Ciara gave birth to their son in 2014, shortly before reports of his infidelity made headlines, leading to their demise. Since then, he’s had to watch Ciara fall in love with the NFL star in the public eye.
Future said it bothered him when he saw Russell pushing around his son in a stroller in March. “It’s something that’ll take more time for me. It ain’t even about [him] playing daddy. I don’t even want to think about it. My son is going to be able to read this. He’s going to be able to look at those pictures. He’s going to be able to have a judgment for himself, and have a conversation with me man-to-man.”
Ciara and Russell are currently planning their wedding, having lasted long past the nay-sayers who criticized their public decision to be abstinent until marriage.
Meanwhile, Future is living it up as a bachelor and is planning a wild trip to Jamaica in June. He said there will be plenty of women stopping by: “You fly some of them in on Sunday, and then another group come in—a rotation. We have to create our vibe and let other people deal with the real world, while we create our world.”
