Samantha Edwards: Former Miss USA Contestant Found Dead At 37

This is so heartbreaking. Samantha Edwards, a former Miss USA contestant, was found dead in her home on June 14. She was just 37 years old.
So sad. Samantha Edwards, who was Miss North Dakota in 2003 and then competed in the Miss USA pageant, is dead at 37 years old. She was found by a friend in her home on June 14.

“This individual was found dead at the above location,” the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s office wrote in a press release. “Cause and manner of death are pending further investigation by Minneapolis Police and the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s office.”

There were no obvious signs of trauma on Samantha’s body, so an autopsy will need to be completed before the cause of death can be made official.

“Yesterday, we were saddened to hear of the passing on one of the most vibrant, energetic, and full-loving title-holders we have had the honor to meet from our state pageants,” the Miss USA & Miss Teen USA organization wrote on Facebook. “Although Samantha was not a titleholder during our directorship, her impact on us and those around her was very apparent. Sam’s smile and her energy will be terribly missed.’

Samantha didn’t make it to the Top 10 when she competed in the Miss USA pageant, but she clearly had an impact on viewers and those who she met during her time competing.

To help with funeral expenses, Samantha’s friend, Jessica Dereschuk, has set up a GoFundMe page with the permission of her family. “If you are moved to donate, thank you. But I know Sami — and the most important thing she would ask you to do…call someone you love right now & tell them,” Jessica wrote. “I feel it is cliche to say life is short, but when tragedy happens, you understand that quote.”
