This is astonishing. Just hours before France and Iceland were set to take the field at the Stade De France for their Euro 2016 quarterfinal match-up, police had to perform a controlled explosion on a suspicious car near the stadium. Fans making their way to the stadium were shocked, and you can understand why.
The incident happened as thousands of fans made their way through the Paris streets to the stadium, unaware of what was going on. At around 7pm French time, police officers cordoned off the route to the stadium and performed a explosion of a suspicious car by the stadium.
The shock explosion comes just months after the horrendous Paris attacks, when ISIS radicals targeted the stadium back in November. Three terrorists struck on the outskirts of the stadium, blowing themselves up and killing one person. At the time, the French national team was playing a exhibition game against Germany.
At the same time, their accomplices were wrecking havoc around Paris, shooting cafe-goers as well as organizing a attack at the Bataclan theatre during an Eagles of Death Metal concert.
Luckily in this incident no one was harmed, but it was always going to be a risk having the Euros in France with everything going on there right now. It’s just a relief to hear that they sound like they’re on top of things.
