Jesse Williams: Petition Begs ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ To Fire Actor After ‘Racist’ BET Awards Speech

Jesse Williams may have received praise originally for his BET speech — but not everyone loved it. A petition has not been started, begging ABC to fire the TK-year-old star from ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ claiming his speech was racist.

Jesse Williams is definitely a passionate man — the actor, 34, was awarded BET’s Humanitarian Award on June 26 and when he took the stage, he used the opportunity to raise more awareness to the Blake Lives Matter cause. However, the humans rights activist, who actually recently executive produced the documentary, Stay Woke: The Black Lives Matter Movement, is now receiving hate from people claiming his speech was “racist,” and that he should be punished for “hate speech.”

The petition, on Change.org, currently has 3,942 signatures and demands he be fired from Grey’s Anatomy. Here’s what the petition says:

Jesse Williams spewed a racist, hate speech against law enforcement and white people at the BET awards. If this was a white person making the same speech about an African American, they would have been fired and globally chastised, as they should be, but there has been no consequences to Williams’ actions. There’s been no companies making a stand against his racist remarks and no swift action condemning his negative attitude. Why was Burke’s character fired from Grey’s Anatomy after his inappropriate homophobic slur, but nothing for Jesse Williams? Why the one-way street?

Jesse also received backlash from Stacey Dash, who shockingly slammed him as a “plantation slave” following his acceptance speech.

“Sorry, Mr. Williams. But the fact that you were standing on that stage at THOSE awards tells people you really don’t know what you’re talking about. Just spewing hate and anger,” she raged on in a blog post. “That chip on the shoulders of people like you will weigh you down and keep you from flying free. But true freedom is never free. You have to know how to fly. If anyone is making you feel this way its you. Living in a psychological prison of your own making. If anyone is GHETTO-IZING anyone, it’s people like you letting the BETs and other media outlets portray us in stereotypes.”
