John Cena On The True Meaning Of Patriotism: Love ‘All’ & Embrace Differences

Well said, John Cena! The wrestler-turned-actor just schooled the nation on what the real meaning of ‘patriotism’ means, and now his powerful message is going viral. Click inside to watch!

Just in time for Independence Day, John Cena, 39, released an inspiring video in which he explains what the real meaning of patriotism is. During his explanation, he goes over the statistics of who your average American is, and how being judgmental of people who are different than is doesn’t make us very patriotic at all.

“Patriotism. There’s a word thrown around a lot,” John’s video starts, as he strolls down the streets of what appears to be your stereotypical small town street. As he keeps moving, American flags and banners can be seen hanging outside of store fronts and from windows, adding to the pretty obvious theme. But, then John gets real.

“Patriotism is love for country, not just pride in it. But what really makes up this country of ours?” John asks, leading to this next statement: “It’s the people.”

John then asks the viewer to picture the “average” American citizen, and then tells them that the person they pictured in their mind are likely not what a real average American looks like. He explains that there are approximately 319 million American citizens, and that 51% of them are female. “First off, the average American is a woman. Cool, huh? Is that what you pictured?” Chances are, that’s not what you pictured at all.
“54 million are Latino, 40 million senior citizens. 27 million are disabled, 18 million are Asian.

That’s more people in the U.S. that play football and baseball combined,” John explains. “Nine million are lesbian, gay, bi, transgender… more than the entire amount of people that live in Virginia.”

John also mentions that three-and-a-half million are Muslim, which he says are “triple” the amount of men and women serving in the armed forces. That’s a pretty wild comparison, isn’t it?
He ends the video with one very powerful statement. “Remember that to love American is to love ALL Americans, because love has no labels.”

Make sure you check out the FULL video above, and then come back and tell us, folks — Do YOU agree with John?
