Katy Perry Drops Surprise New Song ‘Rise’: Does She Diss Taylor Swift?

OMG we definitely weren’t expecting a new song from Katy Perry on July 14, but that’s exactly what we got! So is the surprise jam a jab at nemesis Taylor Swift? Give it a listen and let us know what you think, here!

The new song is haunting and powerful, but we don’t think it’s a jab at Taylor. You may remember that parts of the song leaked on May 30, according to Rap Genius, before she finally released it on July 14. That means it came out before Calvin Harris tweeted a firestorm at Taylor, and brought Katy back into the fray with her. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that this is part of a new album, and that it’s coming soon!

Of course, Katy had a mysterious and epic reveal for the big song. Before she dropped the song, fans began freaking out about some skywriting appearing above Los Angeles. It said simply “#Rise”, and while some automatically knew is was about Katy, others thought it could have to do with girl band Krewella, or in response to the terror attack in Nice, France the same day.
