Kylie Jenner Rocks Cornrows After Getting Slammed For Cultural Appropriation

Kylie just debuted her latest hairstyle aboard a private jet, and we don’t think people are going to be happy about it. Kylizzle is definitely the queen of starting trends, but will her cornrows run her the risk of getting slammed for cultural appropriation? Here’s the scoop.

Just ahead of the holiday weekend on July 1, Kylie Jenner, 18, posted a cute pic of her chilling on a private airplane, but we couldn’t help but notice she was once again rocking a controversial braided hairstyle. What are your thoughts on the new look?

Uh oh! Kylie could be running the risk of sparking another huge debate about cultural appropriation on July 1. The youngest Jenner took a selfie in an orange, over sized hoodie, and she was also rocking neatly braided cornrows. We can guess where this is going…

It’s a little strange that King Kylie picked this exact hairstyle, as she’s already experienced a lot of backlash for the style choice in the past. Kylie was totally slammed on the internet when she donned dreadlocks on the cover of Teen Vogue’s May 2015 issue. And after the mag was released, fans immediately flocked to social media to announce their offense at her braids. They accused the magazine and Kylie of culturally appropriation and being racist, saying things like: “Tired of Kylie Jenner doing things like wearing dreads, black face, plastic surgery etc thinking she’ll earn a black card #kyliej,” one Twitter.

Actress Amandla Stenberg was the firs to call her out for hr original look, saying “when u appropriate black features and culture but fail to use ur position of power to help black Americans by directing attention towards ur wigs instead of police brutality or racism #whitegirlsdoitbetter.” Kylie didn’t let the comment affect her then, clapping back with “Mad if I don’t, Mad if I do…. Go hang w Jaden or something.” We guess she still hasn’t changed her stance!

This picture is definitely coming at a bad time as cultural appropriation has been an ongoing topic in pop culture for the past week. Jesse Williams, 34, ignited the debate during his acceptance speech of the Humanitarian Award at the 2016 BET Awards, saying “we’re done watching and waiting while this invention called whiteness uses and abuses us, burying black people out of sight and out of mind while extracting our culture, our dollars, our entertainment … ghettoizing and demeaning our creations, then stealing them, gentrifying our genius and then trying us on like costumes before discarding our bodies like rinds of strange fruit. The thing is, though — just because we’re magic, doesn’t mean we’re not real.”

So far, Kylie’s pic hasn’t fallen to much criticism. Instead thousands of people have sung nothing but praises for how fabulous and cute Kylie is. But tell us HollywoodLifers, what do you think of Kylie’s new hairstyle?
