Orlando Shooting: Youngest Victim, 18, Pleaded On 911 Call – ‘I Don’t Want To Die’

This is just beyond heartbreaking. Orlando PD have released some of the conversations that 911 operators had with doomed victims trapped inside Pulse nightclub during the massacre that killed 49 people. The final call from an 18-year-old woman as she lay dying from gunshot wounds is so devastating.

So tragic! Youngest Pulse nightclub victim Akyra Murray, 18 was on vacation and celebrating her high school graduation with friends when her life was tragically cut short during the mass gay club shooting in Orlando June 12. She placed a call to a 911 operator who listened to the woman’s final moments as she lay gravely injured, pleading that she didn’t want to die.

Akyra had gone to Pulse nightclub with her cousin and a friend during a post-graduation trip to Orlando. The West Philadelphia native was hit by gunfire when homicidal homophobe Omar Mateen, 29, stormed the club shortly after 2 a.m. and began shooting. She was initially alert enough to call both her mother as well as 911, and she stayed on the line with an operator as she slowly died from blood loss. Now we’re learning the tragic details of her last minutes of life.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department June 30 released call logs that detail Akyra’s tragic final moments. Dispatchers began receiving calls from victims around 2:10 a.m.and Akyra was one of them. “Victim (says) her body is going numb,” a dispatcher wrote at 2.21 a.m., referring to how the teen was doing after being shot.

Several minutes earlier, at 2:32.55, a dispatcher wrote,”Compl(ainant) adv(ises) losing feeling in her leg… Just keeps saying ‘I don’t want to die today.” Oh geez this is just heartbreaking. In one of the final notations about Akyra, the operator noted, “My (victim) is 18 years of age…she is losing eyesight and feeling in her body,” a dispatcher wrote at 2.36 a.m. as her condition worsened. Akyra would pass shortly thereafter and become one of the tragic 49 victims killed.

Akyra  had just graduated high school the week before with honors from West Catholic Prep outside Philly and was simply visiting the Orlando area with friends when she was in the wrong place at the wrong time. She had a bright future ahead of her as she was set to play college basketball at Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania in the fall. It’s so tragic that her bright light and those of 48 others were cut so short.
