“This will be the final bad,” Kevin Williamson, who’s returning to write again for the final season, revealed during The Vampire Diaries panel on Saturday. After it was confirmed by Julie Plec, an emotional goodbye video message was shown.
We knew it was coming — but it’s still tough to say goodbye. Ian Somerhalder was the first to announce the news when he was at Nashville’s Walker Stalker Con on April 10. Now, the CW has confirmed the end of The Vampire Diaries. “We have decided to do one last season to really do the story justice,” Ian told fans at convention; however, the CW revealed that no decision had been made at that time. But that was our second signal the show would be ending. The first was just one week before that when Kat Graham announced at the iHeartRadio awards that season eight would be the end for Bonnie Bennett.
“Season 8 will be my last,” Kat told Us Weekly on April 3. “I just hope that whatever I do after, the crew can come with me. If the crew can come with me, then we’ll be good. The crew is going to be the hardest thing to let go because we’re a family.” We have a feeling that most of the cast and crew will have the same feeling.
Of course, at the end of season six, star Nina Dobrev also left the show, and her character was placed under a spell that she would not be able to wake up until Bonnie had died — which means yes, she’ll be back for the finale. “Nina has always said that if there’s something for her to do in the series finale that she will be there to do it,” Julie told EW. “When she left, she said, ‘I want to see this character to its end at the end of the show, so I can’t wait to come back and put her to bed again.’”
