Dwyane Wade’s Cousin Shot Dead In Crossfire While Pushing Her Child In Stroller

This is so terribly tragic! Dwyane Wade’s first cousin was shot in the head and killed in gang crossfire and she was walking with her child in Chicago.

This comes just a day after the newest member of the Chicago Bulls made a statement decrying the city’s crazy high homicide rate.

What devastating news. Dwyane Wade’s cousin Nykea Aldridge, 32, was pushing her child in a stroller near an elementary school at when two men opened fire on another man, and they missed and instead  she was hit in the head  and arm by stray bullets. She was rushed to a local hospital and sadly didn’t survive. Can you believe this happened in broad daylight — around 3:30pm local time — near a school?! Chicago’s south side has been plagued with gun violence and this is yet another tragic example of how many innocent victims there are in the city’s gang wars.

The new Chicago Bulls star confirmed the tragic news via Twitter, announcing “My cousin was killed today in Chicago. Another act of senseless gun violence. 4 kids lost their mom for NO REASON. Unreal.#EnoughIsEnough.” The timing of his cousin’s murder comes just a day after D-Wade had an open and revealing conversation on violence in the black community on ESPN’s The Undefeated.
“This is something that didn’t start today. This is something that is not going to end tomorrow. But this is something that we can start a conversation, we can start the work today,” he said on the show.

While it was airing he tweeted out the scary statistic that, “Every 16 mins someone in Chicago is killed by a firearm #TheUndefeated @espn.” It’s so devastating to think that less than 24 hours later one of his own relatives would become part of that chilling statistic.

Dwyane is returning to his hometown to play for the Bulls after 13 seasons in Miami. It’s so sad that before the season even got underway that someone close to him would be murdered on the streets there.

Readers, share your thoughts for Dwyane and his family in the comments below.
