Jaden Smith: My Gender-Neutral Clothing Line Is For Tomboys & Boys Who Want To Wear Skirts

Jaden Smith opened up about his unique sense of style, his gender-neutral clothing line, MSFTSrep, and the way he hopes his collection inspires others.

Jaden Smith, 18, isn’t ever one to skirt the issue — especially when we’re talking about his sense of style! The fashion-forward teen always seems to always be making headlines with his fashion choices, whether it be the skirt he wore to prom with Hunger Games actress Amandla Stenberg or the Batman costume he wore to Kimye’s Parisian wedding.

“I’ve always been super-duper fly and super-duper different,” he told our sister publication, Variety. In fact, he even suited up in a skirt for Louis Vuitton’s Spring 2016 womenswear campaign, and it is his gender-bending style what inspired him to launch his MSFTSrep line.

“It’s pronounced ‘misfits.’ I took the ‘I” out of ‘misfits’ because we’re a team and there is no ‘I’ in team. It’s a place for the lost kids and everyone to go, and something for them to have,” he said as he explained the name of the brand. Jaden isn’t afraid to stand out in a crowd and that’s what he hopes to inspire with his line. He said he created it for: “the girl that wants to be a tomboy or the boy that wants to wear a skirt, and people try to condemn. We’re here for you. Tell us your stories. If someone at your school’s trying to pick on you, it doesn’t matter because Jaden Smith’s got your back,” he continued.

As for his personal sense of style, he cited Andy Warhol, the Joker, Poseidon and Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer as his style icons, which inspire his unique looks that always seem to catch our attention.

Jaden is self-assured and confident, crediting his parents, Will and Jada Pinkett Smith for the way he was raised. “My parents told me that the world was harsh and that we had to be strong within ourselves,” he said.
