Carla was put forth as the mother of his child by the media, after a photo Jose posted before his death suggested it could be her. But now, she has come out saying that his girlfriend, Maria Arias, is the one carrying his baby. See Carla’s message.
“My heart goes out to Maria [Arias], as she is expecting [Jose Fernandez‘s] child,” Carla Mendoza wrote in the caption of an Instagram post from Sept. 26. “Please honor Joses memory by respecting his daughter and her mother as I’m sure this is all too painful for her as well.” With Carla’s Instagram post, we have official confirmation that she is not the mother of his unborn child. So, that settles that.
As previously reported, it was not Jose’s longtime girlfriend Carla that he posted a pregnant photo of on Instagram days before his untimely passing, but his new girlfriend Maria. He began dating Maria very soon after his April split from Carla, and Maria got pregnant just weeks after that.
We love that Carla is able to set aside how she might be feeling about losing Jose, both as a fiance and now due to death, and focus on clearing things up with the media in a way that can only help Maria and honor Jose’s memory. We are sure she only wants the best for Maria and Jose’s daughter. After all, she made it clear her “heart goes out” to them.
