Drake, you had Rihanna, and about a million girls’ hearts melting when you strode up onto the MTV VMAs stage on the night of Sunday, Aug. 28.
You were in your tux and ready to present Rihanna with the prestigious Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, and you were a huge surprise to the audience. No one knew you’d be the one doing the honors for Riri. Rihanna was waiting for you in a gorgeous gown and when you arrived on stage, you went right in for the kiss before launching into a heartfelt speech.
“She’s someone I’ve been in love with since I was 22 years old,” you told the world. What’s most impressive about her “is the person…she succeeds by doing something that no one else in this music industry does, which is being herself.”
Drake, you went on to enthuse: “She’s one of my best friends in the world. All my adult life I’ve looked up to her, even though she’s younger than me.”
It was a beautiful public expression of love, sealed with a kiss, and then with a hand-in-hand walk, off the stage.
Since that night, you two have truly come out as a real couple on date nights in NYC and Miami. You’ve been out celebrating with both of your families, have been PDAing in clubs and then on Aug. 31, the two of you took to the stage at your Summer Sixteen show and did some very public smooching.
This is a beautiful thing for both the two of you and all of your fans. But Drake, let’s hope that for Rihanna’s sake, you are in this romance for the long haul. She deserves your real and long term commitment.
You said it yourself at the VMAs: “What’s most impressive is– the person.” And this person – Rihanna – is a very special woman. Not only is she stunningly beautiful, incredibly talented, successful and rich, she is also a wonderful human being.
She loves her family and generously honored her beloved late ‘Gran Gran Dolly,’ Clara Braithwaite, by donating $1.75 million to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in the Barbados, benefitting the oncology department there.
She founded the BELIEVE Foundation in 2006, which focuses on helping children with blood cancers, including assisting children and adults find bone marrow donors. She’s also generously participated in numerous concerts benefitting causes from pediatric cancer to disaster relief.
In other words, Drake, this is a woman of kindness and substance. She’s a treasure. But, she’s a treasure who you’ve loved and left before. In February and March 2014, you were heavily wooing Rihanna through Paris, Amsterdam and Germany on a series of romantic dates. Rihanna even made an appearance at one of your Paris concerts on Feb. 25, where the two of you, dueted on his tune, “Take Care.”
But, after a couple of hot and heavy months, you told Rihanna that despite loving her, you needed “a little space to focus on your career,” according to a Hollywoodlife.com insider source. Hmmm! No wonder that Rihanna has taken her time letting you get emotionally close to her again.
Your relationship started heating back up again this summer and Riri was caught heading into your hotel room in London for three nights in a row at the end of June. And, that was after some hot performing and grinding together on stage.
Now we hear exclusively from an insider, Drake that you actually went down on one knee after the VMAs and told Rihanna that you loved her and wanted to commit. She was so happy that she sobbed, according to our source. Awww!
Rihanna has shown her own love to you by getting a new shark tattoo on her ankle after the VMAs. Apparently, you bought her a stuffed shark at an aquarium you two visited earlier this month.
However, Drake, here’s a warning. We also hear that she will be “severely damaged” if you break her heart. “She’s very fragile and has been hurt too many times and the last thing she needs is heartbreak… Drake’s done a lot of talking, but now, he must walk that walk,” another source tells Hollywoodlife.com exclusively.
