A Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority train in Boston was evacuated due to an issue with the motor, per the Boston Globe. Visible smoke on the train caused panicked riders to break and leap out of windows! The train, which is part of the city’s Orange Line, reportedly experienced overheating in its motor during the Wednesday evening commute. Bystanders say that they heard popping sounds coming from the train, and saw thick smoke on the platform. “I noticed a haze coming from the platform and got to the top of the stairs and people were running up,” one witness told the Globe. “[There was] thick smoke on platform. People had to get freed from the train.” So terrifying!

Boston citizens instantly took to Twitter to react to the incident, and many are furious that the government and MBTA let it happen. “Can I vote on a referendum to force the governor to ride the Orange Line every day until it finally isn’t a giant crap show every day?” one user tweeted. “About ten years ago, the Orange Line ran on time and rarely caught fire. It’s amazing what a difference a decade of underfunding can make,” another complained. In the end, we’re just glad nobody was seriously injured.
