Lionel suffered his second groin injury this season during the Sept. 21 match with Atletico Madrid, per ESPN. He was expected to sit out for three weeks, and doing so, he missed victories over Sporting Gijon in La Liga and Monchengladbach in the Champions league. He also missed out on helping his team against Celta Vigo, as the La Liga underdogs pulled off an unexpected 4-3 upset.
With Barcelona struggling to take ahold of first place in La Liga, the team is ready to have Messi join Neymar, 24, (last seen getting a bloody headache in Brazil) and Luis Suarez, 29, in forming the deadly offensive trident. Even Messi’s opponents want him back.
“From a personal standpoint, I prefer to play against the best,” German Lux, 34, of Depor said ahead of the match, according to ESPN. The goaltender wants to put his skills against arguably the best player in the world. “You have to enjoy the gifts that football offers which are marvelous: to play a game at Barcelona’s ground, against the best players in the world. I would like for Messi to play if he has recovered.”
Lux better watch out because he might just get his wish. With Depor stuck in 13th place, they can’t afford to lose this match. German better hope he’s ready to keep Lionel from nailing the ball deep into the net.
