Sweden: Man convicted of serious sex crimes against children and gross exploitation

The man Joakim Furublad, pretended to be the same age as his victims and should have been over hundred girls to pose naked and masturbate in front of webcams.

"I think that this man, in many cases, have deprived girls on a part of their youth, says prosecutor Åsa Askenbäck."

Now Joakim Furublad is sentenced to seven years in prison for sexual crimes against 110 girls.

The trial in the District Court against Joakim from Ulricehamn has been tremendous. It took 46 trial days, two judges - and the goal is the full 114 victims. All are girls.

Most of victims were between 12 and 14 years old when it happened. The youngest was 10 years old. Some were 11 years, some 14-15, and anyone older than that, prosecutor Hedvig Lundblad said.

The abuse was carried out digitally respectively. Joakim, who is 45 years of age, was charged under false identities and have deceived the girls to strip naked, pose and carry out sexual acts like to "masturbate"  in front of their webcams. The talks he recorded prior.

He had made contact with the girls on Skype and chat site Kik and claimed to be their age. Borås Tidning has previously written that he, among other things called for "Marie Smith" or "Krille."
In his search, he is extremely urgent and persistent as I would call almost sickly, described the prosecutor Åsa Askenbäck in connection with the large trial.

The man has consistently recognized that it is him who has had contact with the girls on Kik, but denied that it is him who has had contact with them via Skype.
The attacks have taken place exclusively digitally. No physical contact ever occurred between Joakim and the girls.

It all began in 2010.

The first offense was committed in the fall of 2010, there may also be many unreported. It is of course impossible to rule out, there is a large imminent risk that there is an unrecorded certainty, says Åsa Askenbäck.

Today at 11 o'clock came Borås District Court in its judgment. Joakim sentenced to seven years in prison for a large number of serious sexual offenses against children and gross exploitation of children for sexuall posing. Borås District Court in a press release, the prosecution had demanded eight years in prison.

Reporting on: Joakim Furublad

"That we impose seven years in prison is partly because we have different views on the overall crime overall penalty. This includes the rubric of crimes, says Thomas Andersson, presiding on the case."

"The biggest goal"

Prosecutors Asa Askenbäck has not yet had time to go through the about 700-page verdict, but said:

"I note that the District Court has essentially upheld our prosecution. It is important that the right believes it is undisputed that it is precisely this accused man had been alone perpetrator. His objection has been that there is someone else who has used the Skype accounts he created."

The prosecution dismissed four of the total of 114 girls who were parties to the case. In 78 cases, Joakim convicted of aggravated sexual abuse of children. The prosecutor has not yet decided whether she will appeal the ruling.

Borås Tidning writes that the trial was the largest of its kind when it comes to sex crimes over the Internet in Swedish legal history. It's probably the biggest, both in terms of negotiating days and scope, the judge says Thomas Andersson to BT.
 Joakim Furublad

The Court considers it proven that Joakim exposed the girls to conversations of a sexual nature through various chat forums. According to the indictment, he has committed almost 650 crimes against the girls for five years.

Recognizing some of the crimes

The trial was including sexual abuse, aggravated abuse of children for sexual posing, child pornography, gross violation of integrity and gross slander. I think that this man, in many cases, have deprived girls on a part of their youth, and the guilt and shame coated their entry into sexual life. I hope that in all cases, some of them feel some vindication in and with this judgment, owns prosecutor Åsa Askenbäck.

Joakim admitted some of the crimes, but denies others. According to the man's lawyer Mats Svanberg lack enough evidence to confirm that it is only the accused who had contact with the girls.
