‘Hamilton’ Mixtape: Kelly Clarkson & The Roots Remix Two Powerhouse Songs

Hamilton fans, prepare yourselves. This mixtape is already smashin’ every expectation. With the pre-order launching for the ‘Hamilton Mixtape’ today, creator and legend Lin-Manuel Miranda dropped two songs off the album as a first listen — and we have them here for you to enjoy!

First up, perhaps the most iconic song from the show is reimagined by perhaps the biggest fans of the Broadway smash in the biz. The Roots have made their love for the musical quite known, and with the help of rap heavyweights Busta Rhymes, Joel Ortiz & Nate Ruess, they’ve breathed new life into ‘My Shot.’ The beats are the same, the passion behind the rhymes are the same, but remix gives the track a more mainstream flare that will surely help this song find it’s way to the charts very, very quickly.

Now, if you think you can handle it, the second track dropped from the mixtape is quite different, but by no means less powerful. Kelly Clarkson lends her voice to the album in perhaps the must gut-wrenching song of the show, ‘It’s Quiet Uptown’. Taking on both verses from Hamilton and his wife Eliza, the original American Idol sings her way through the grief of the Hamilton’s losing their son in horrible duel. Even when the song is taken out of the context of the musical, as it is here, the words and sadness behind the song are just so incredible and KC for sure does Lin justice.

But wait, there’s more! Yes, so much more is on the way when the mixtape finally drops. Songs reimagined by Sia, John Legend, Ashanti, Ja Rule and more will release with the album on Dec. 2, along with never-before-heard demos from Lin from when he was writing the iconic show years ago. In short, for any fan of Hamilton, this record is going to be EPIC.

Will you be picking up a copy of the mixtape? Are you not going to waste your…. shot?
