Katy Perry got the surprise of a lifetime when one of her idols, Hillary Clinton, showed up at UNICEF’s Snowflake Ball on Nov. 29 to thank her for all her work with the organization. Hillary was so proud of Katy that the speech she gave while introducing her moved the singer to tears!
Hillary Clinton, 69, totally surprised Katy Perry, 32, when she ended up being the one to introduce the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and singer at the UNICEF Snowflake Ball in New York on Nov. 29. Katy was being honored with the organization’s Audrey Hepburn Humanitarian Award and we’re sure that she couldn’t have picked a better person herself to give the sweet introduction!
“We need champions like Katy, now more than ever,” Hillary said in her speech presenting the “Roar” singer with the award. This appearance was one of Hillary’s first since she lost the presidential election to Donald Trump on Nov. 8. And wouldn’t you know it, the politician received a standing ovation as she took the stage! Those who were in attendance excitedly tweeted how surprised Katy was to see Hillary show up and was even brought to tears by her entrance.
“Truly my work has just begun, and this award is a starting line, not a finish line,” Katy said during her acceptance speech. Katy then went on to thank Hillary. “Hillary has lit that voice inside of me, and that light will never go out. It will continue to get brighter and brighter and brighter.” How amazing! We’re sure Katy couldn’t have been happier to have Hillary at the UNICEF gala, which was hosted by Octavia Spencer, and included performances by the cast of The Color Purple and Sara Bareilles. Though Katy had beau Orlando Bloom by her side that night, we don’t know if she was more excited about having him there or Hillary!
