Jesus Christ’s Burial Slab Revealed For First Time in 500 Years — Pic

This is so cool! Jesus Christ’s limestone burial slab was believed to be recovered for the first time in 500 years. We have the pics, and all the details, here.

Our inner geeks are freaking out! The burial slab inside the chamber of Jesus Christ’s tomb in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in the Old City of Jerusalem has been uncovered for the first time since the year 1555. The tomb was opened again and the original surface removed by a conservation team from the National Technical University of Athens. “I’m absolutely amazed. My knees are shaking a little bit because I wasn’t expecting this,” Fredrik Hiebert, the archaeologist-in-residence for National Geographic told the publication, which had exclusive access. “It appears to be visible proof that the location of the tomb has not shifted through time, something that scientists and historians have wondered for decades.” CLICK HERE TO SEE THE AMAZING PICS!

The team had 60 hours to explore before the tomb was eventually resealed. It took them HOURS to find the tomb, according to the publication, and as they continued digging, they ultimately found a marble slab with a cross carved into it! “This is the Holy Rock that has been revered for centuries but only now can actually be seen,” Antonia Moropoulou, the chief scientific supervisor professor who is in charge of the preservation, told the mag. Seriously, this is such an amazing discovery.

As Christian theory goes, Jesus’ body was laid to rest on a slab from a limestone cave after he was crucified. “We may not be absolutely certain that the site of the Holy Sepulchre Church is the site of Jesus’s burial, but we certainly have no other site that can lay a claim nearly as weighty, and we really have no reason to reject the authenticity of the site,” Dan Bahat, a former city archaeologist of Jerusalem, told the publication. This definitely sounds like the real thing to us!
