With the premiere of her new E! docuseries, Mariah’s World, just around the corner, Mariah Carey stopped by Ellen to talk about it. The only problem is that she didn’t want to talk about it. The series was shot when Carey was engaged to Australian billionaire James Packer, and the cameras caught private moments that may be painful for the singer to talk about now, like Carey trying on wedding dresses.
When host Ellen DeGeneres asked how she’s doing mentally, Carey replied, “I think I’m doing well. Everything happens for a reason. Things are the way they are.”
The conversation got a little awkward when DeGeneres pressed the issue of Packer’s involvement in the docuseries.
“He didn’t want to be in the docuseries at all, and yet he’s in it. You see him,” DeGeneres told Carey. “Allegedly,” responded Carey.
DeGeneres pushed the issue, insisting she’d seen Packer in it, and Carey eventually confirmed that he does appear. But Carey still wasn’t ready to really talk about it and just avoided the issue altogether.
“It’s kind of difficult to talk about at this moment, so I’m just gonna compliment you on these decorations once again, because they are fabulous, and I am here among them,” Carey said.
