What an honor! It’s no secret that one of the hottest shoes of the year was easily Rihanna‘s FENTY PUMA Creeper. Not only have we spotted the shoe on a slew of stylish stars but the sneaker continuously sells out every time a new, cool colorway drops — and now it’s officially the “Shoe of the Year”! Our sister publication, Footwear News, will honor the sneaker at the 2016 FN Achievement Awards in nYC on Nov. 29, where RiRi will be on hand to accept the coveted award.
Rihanna is in good company, as previous winners of the award include Kanye West and Stan Smith.
In fact, the songstress will take the crown from her friend Kanye, who received the honor for his Yeezy Boost 350 sneaker with Adidas at the 2015 award show.
Rihanna is honored and excited by the news. “In my wildest dreams, I never would have imagined an honor like ‘shoe of the year.’ It means so much to me to make a mark like this in the shoe and sneaker industry and to have so many people share my love for the creeper,” she said in a statement released by the publication.
“Shoe of the Year is the most coveted award because it truly reflects industry dominance,” Michael Atmore, FN‘s editorial director, said. “Like Stan Smith and Kanye West, Rihanna made a statement shoe that drove global excitement and generated huge sales. Rihanna and Puma pushed the market in a new direction with an overnight sensation that has real legs.”
