Sweden: Jill Svensson Compete In New Wave 2017 Semi Final in Moscow, Russia

Born Swedish singer, songwriter that decided in early this year slayed Beyoncés 'Halo' (Piano Cover Video) with a freestyle charisma, will be competing in the semi finals for New Wave 2017 next month in the Russian Capital, Moscow. Get the full details below.

The very known 21 year old Jill could be the first Swedish singer to compete at the New Wave contest since Leon in 2005. The singer, songwriter has been selected to participate in the semi final stage in Moscow, Russia which is being held between April 7 and April 8. If Jill is selected by the jury to compete at this years contest she would be only the second Swedish singer to take part in the competition.

Jill has been performing since a young age and has appeared on a number of television competitions in Sweden. The multi talented songstress who at the age of 14 years, took Sweden with the power of her amazing voice. She became the most righteous winner in the final of the Sweden Got Talent, back in 2010.

Since then she has gone on to release two albums and has begun to work with Ylva & Linda, the Swedish songwriters who have competed in over 20 Eurovision selections as writers, and are behind the countries participation in Turkvision 2017.

New Wave has been held annually since 2002 and has provided a platform for stars within Eastern Europe to be discovered. These include the likes of Nelly Ciobanu, Rin’Go, Intars Busulis and the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2016, Jamala. Between 16 and 11 singers are normally selected to compete in the final of the competition which is traditionally held in the late Summer or Autumn.


What is the New Wave Contest? New Wave was first held in 2002 in Jurmala, Latvia. The contest which is held over three days is open to singers age between 16 and 35 years old.

The competition is incredibly popular within Eastern Europe with up and coming performers taking to the stage alongside well-known guests from across the region.
The contest has been a launching point for many careers including Intars Busulis, Natalia Gordienko and Jamala the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2016.
