It’s been a fairly mild winter on the east coast this year, but a massive nor’easter is coming! Winter Storm Stella is expected to begin in the early hours of March 14, dumping snow throughout the northeast all day long, with 1-2 feet expected in most areas.
The storm will start in the mid-Atlantic region, hitting Washington D.C., Baltimore and Philadelphia on Monday night before heading up the coast to as far as New York City by early Tuesday morning.
As the day rages on, most of the northeast should be expected to experience snowfall, falling at 1-4 inches per hour, accompanied by heavy winds. The storm is expected to continue throughout New England through Tuesday night
Those in areas like Boston, Providence and New York City can expect a foot or more of snow, with accumulation nearing 18 inches in some locations. The amount of snow that will fall in places like D.C., Baltimore and southern New Jersey is still unknown at this time, and will depend on the storm’s path.
The midwest will also be affected by Stella, although conditions are supposed to be light in these areas, including Chicago. South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa have already been hit by the storm, with areas reporting between 6 and 10 inches of snowfall.
Advisories have already been put in effect for the areas expected to experience the blizzard, and residents are urged to use caution once the snow begins. Stay inside, — it looks like it’s going to be a big one!
How are you preparing for Winter Storm Stella? Do you think it will be as bad as expected?
